The cost of living crisis is truly in full swing, and Britons are doing what they can to save money. Some savvy money-savers shared how people can save on energy bills at home with handy kettle hacks.

According to Good to Know, boiling a full kettle costs 6.8p, and while this doesn’t seem like much, popping the kettle on several times a day is a very common occurrence in British households.

Smart Property Tours took to YouTube to share how Britons can save money instantly with their kettle.

Filling the kettle from the cup means that you are only boiling enough water for the cups of tea you are making, and not using any more energy than is needed.

Fred Gaskit also took to the sharing platform to reveal his handy hack for saving money from the kettle.

He told fellow money savers to boil their kettle once a day, pouring the excess water into a thermos.

This means that the flask can be used for “numerous hot drinks” throughout the day, without having to boil the kettle again.

According to the official Thermos website, a Thermos from the Stainless King range will keep liquids hot for 24 hours.

A similar video was made by a TikTok account called Cost of Living Crisis Tips, but opinions were a mixed bag.

The video suggested that tea and coffee lovers boil their kettle once a day before pouring it into a teapot with three tea bags.

Next, fill up a flask with the tea for “brews all day” without having to reboil the kettle.

The video has so far been shared more than 2,500 times, with 7,919 users saving the post for later viewing.

It has also amassed over 225,000 likes, suggesting that the simple tip has been helpful to some during hard times.

@BexC commented on the video: “I’ve started doing this! Boil in the morning and fill a massive flask with hot water. Brews all day for less money."

@CarlyH added that it was a "cracking idea", while @yorkshiregirl called the money-saving hack "fabulous".

But others hated the idea of not enjoying their quintessential cup of tea, and shocked that the cost of living crisis has got to this point.

@rob22888 stated: "No matter how bad it gets, I'm having cups of tea fresh from the ketle. Life's too short."

@crystlsdsprstr added: "It's 2022 and we live in one of the richest countries in the world.

"We shouldn'y have to do this. We deserve better."

@LegoGenno commented: "Dark times when boiling a kettle once a day is being considered."

@911Tam seconded this: "Can anyone else believe how sad it is that we are in 2022 and we can't just use the kettle / heating when we like?"
